What is Upneeq®?
Upneeq is an innovative prescription eye drop that can help open up your eyes to appear more energetic and youthful. This treatment is quick and effective, and it may just be the most convenient approach yet to achieving a refreshed look.
How Does Upneeq® Work?
Upneeq is administered as an eye drop. The solution contains 0.1% oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution as its active ingredient. Just one drop into each eye delivers the perfect dose of oxymetazoline to cause the muscles in the upper eyelid to tighten up. The tighter muscle then causes subtle retraction of the eyelid skin. The result is a subtle lift and opening of the eyes.
Is Upneeq® Safe?
Yes. Upneeq has been through necessary clinical testing and has been approved by the FDA for the correction of acquired eyelid ptosis in adults. Acquired eyelid ptosis is the weakening and loosening of the upper eyelid muscle, the levator muscle, as a result of the aging process. The active ingredient in Upneeq, oxymetazoline hydrochloride, is the active ingredient found in many decongestant sprays. In these products, it works by causing blood vessel contraction, leading to more open nasal passages.
Who is a Good Candidate for Upneeq® Eye Drops?
Upneeq has been developed for the correction of loose upper eyelids, referred to as ptosis. However, it’s important to understand that the FDA-approved drug does not work on congenital ptosis. Severe eyelid ptosis may not respond sufficiently to eye drops. In this instance, surgical tightening of the levator muscle may be a better treatment option. Upneeq is also not a solution for heavy upper eyelids that are the result of low-lying or descending eyebrows. Your provider wants you to achieve treatment results that you love! Here, we’ll perform a comprehensive evaluation of your eyelid tissue and forehead area to ensure that the most appropriate treatment options are discussed.
How Do I Use Upneeq®?
One of the benefits of Upneeq is that this treatment doesn’t take more than a couple of minutes. The product comes packaged in individual, single-use vials. After opening the foil, simply apply one drop of Upneeq in each eye. This treatment is designed to be a once-a-day solution to drooping eyelids.
How Long Does it Take for Upneeq® to Work?
After you apply the Upneeq eye drops, you can expect to notice a change in the tightness and openness of your eyes within five to 15 minutes.
How Long Do the Results of Upneeq® Last?
According to clinical studies, the muscle-tightening effects of Upneeq can last eight to 10 hours. In some cases, results can last even longer.
Are There Any Side Effects Associated with Upneeq®?
There are very few side effects to Upneeq. During clinical trials, side effects were limited to minor eye irritation and signs of inflammation like dry eye and redness. If you experience side effects due to Upneeq, talk to your provider about potential risks and solutions.
